2021.10.20 10:27 BBH_pinecone What is wrong with this place?!
The walls are closing in on me. The smell is driving me insane. The monsters here are out for my blood and I'm hopeless to escape. Whatever god down this hellhole created me really wanted me to suffer. Everything is so confusing, this endless, non-euclidian maze is making me mad. There is a safe haven for me out there but I get lost night after night and its so very hard to get back. The noise is hurting my brain.
I've been in many places here, but I can't seem to find somewhere peaceful.
This labyrinth will never end. I hope whatever thing that made me finishes whatever it needs to do and frees me.
At least I have somewhere that I don't suffer...

2021.10.20 10:27 RiseInfinite I am trying to rebalance Leomund's Tiny Hut, Wall of Force and Forcecage to be less powerful but still very much usable. I could use some feedback.
Leomund's Tiny Hut
3rd level evocation (ritual)
Casting Time: 1 minute
Range: Self (10-foot-radius hemisphere)
Components: V, S, M (a small crystal bead)
Duration: 8 hours
A 10-foot-radius immobile hemispherical dome of force springs into existence around, below and above you and remains stationary for the duration. The spell ends if you leave its area.
Nine creatures of Medium size or smaller can fit inside the dome with you. The spell fails if its area includes a larger creature or more than nine creatures. Creatures and objects within the dome when you cast this spell can move through it freely, except through its floor. All other creatures and objects are barred from passing through it. Spells and other magical effects can't extend through the dome or be cast through it. The atmosphere inside the space is comfortable and dry, regardless of the weather outside.
Until the spell ends, you can command the interior to become dimly lit or dark. The dome is opaque from the outside, of any color you choose, but it is transparent from the inside.
The dome is an object that can be damaged and thus destroyed. It has AC 16 and 60 hit points. It is immune to poison and psychic damage, resistant to piercing and slashing damage and cannot regain hit points. If the dome reaches 0 hit points the spell ends. A disintegrate spell destroys the dome instantly.
Wall of Force
5th level evocation
Casting Time: 1 action
Range: 120 feet
Components: V, S, M (a pinch of powder made by crushing a clear gemstone)
Duration: Concentration, up to 10 minutes
An invisible wall of force springs into existence at a point you choose within range. The wall appears in any orientation you choose, as a horizontal or vertical barrier or at an angle. It can be free floating or resting on a solid surface. You can form it into a hemispherical dome or a sphere with a radius of up to 10 feet, or you can shape a flat surface made up of ten 10-foot-by-10-foot panels. Each panel must be contiguous with another panel. In any form, the wall is 1/4 inch thick. It lasts for the duration. If the wall cuts through a creature's space when it appears, the creature is pushed to one side of the wall (your choice which side).
Nothing can physically pass through the wall before it is destroyed and it cannot be dispelled by dispel magic. The wall also extends into the Ethereal Plane, blocking ethereal travel through the wall. If the wall reaches 0 hit points the spell ends.
The wall is an object that can be damaged and thus destroyed. It has AC 20 and 100 hit points. It is immune to poison and psychic damage, resistant to piercing and slashing damage and cannot regain hit points. If the wall reaches 0 hit points the spell ends. A disintegrate spell destroys the wall instantly.
7th level evocation
Casting Time: 1 action
Range: 100 feet
Components: V, S, M (ruby dust worth 1,500 gp)
Duration: 1 hour
An immobile, invisible, cube-shaped prison composed of magical force springs into existence around an area you choose within range. The prison can be a cage or a solid box as you choose and it cannot be dispelled by dispel magic.
A prison in the shape of a cage can be up to 20 feet on a side and is made from 1/2-inch diameter bars spaced 1/2 inch apart.
A prison in the shape of a box can be up to 10 feet on a side, creating a solid barrier that prevents any matter from passing through it and blocking any spells cast into or out from the area.
When you cast the spell, any creature that is completely inside the prison’s area is trapped. Creatures only partially within the area, or those too large to fit inside the area, are pushed away from the center of the area until they are completely outside the area.
A creature inside the cage can't leave it by nonmagical means until the cage is destroyed. If the creature tries to use teleportation or interplanar travel to leave the cage, it must first make a Charisma saving throw. On a success, the creature can use that magic to exit the cage. On a failure, the creature can't exit the cage and wastes the use of the spell or effect. The cage also extends into the Ethereal Plane, blocking ethereal travel.
The prison, whether it has the shape of a cage or a solid box, is an object that can be damaged and thus destroyed. It has AC 24 and 140 hit points. It is immune to poison and psychic damage, resistant to piercing and slashing damage and cannot regain hit points. If the prison reaches 0 hit points the spell ends. A disintegrate spell that targets the prison deals damage to it as if it was a creature that failed its saving throw.

2021.10.20 10:27 ickybus overview for Violet831
2021.10.20 10:27 fairworker Mutilated Animals
One afternoon in 2004, I went for a walk alone along an estuary in Cornwall, UK. To get to the river, I had to walk through a housing estate and pass through an alley. The estuary is known as being one of the most beautiful places in Europe. Then the public footpath went through meadows, with wild gorse bushes growing and the land was hilly and sloped down to the water. There was a lone house in one the fields and I past it, noting that there had been a barbecue in the garden. Then I reached some woods.
I'd not been so far along the estuary before. (Incidentally, this was where a pod of dolphins committed suicide in 2008 https://bdmlr.org.uk/wp-content/uploads/2020/04/resources-bdmlr-cwtmsn-report-may09.pdf). I spent some time exploring the woods and found a homemade bandage with blood and tape on it. There was a man in the village (rumoured to have once been a professor of logic) who lived wild, and it looked like one of his bandages. He came to the shop where I worked sometimes, and I would ask him about his injuries. Shortly after this day, he tripped and fell and hit his head and died. I think the bandage was just there coincidentally and I doubt he had anything to do with what happened next.
I turned out of the woods and decided not to follow the same path back to the estate, but to cut through the fields adjacent to the path, further away from the river. The first field went uphill and was grassy, but not long grass. When I got so far and nearly to the end of that field, I could see only a hedgerow across the top and a gate on its right, so I turned and took a few steps towards the right side of the field. That was when I saw it.
Its belly was facing me so that was the first thing I noticed. The next thing was its posture, which was really weird. Then I realised I wasn't sure what kind of animal I was looking at. I kept walking slowly towards it and delineating all the details to try to make sense of it.
It's genitals had been removed and an oblong on its belly, but the skin had been cut very neatly, surgically, so that the insides were just red and not hanging out. It wasn't like a dog had attacked it. It had obviously been mutilated and the remaining wound was a large oblong shape.
It was laid out ritually on the grass. Its legs were together in pairs, but spread out. Its tail had been hacked off and its ears and nose. I couldn't tell if it were a donkey or a cow. I got close enough to it to notice that there weren't any flies on the exposed meat or the bloody face, but that made me realise that it must have happened only minutes earlier. So I fled.
I ran out of the field the way I'd come and back along the path. When I got the lone house, I wanted to knock on the door, but all I could think was Texas Chainsaw Massacre, so I kept going. I had no signal on my phone until I got to the estate. At first, I dialled 999 and the operator gave me another number to call to report a situation that isn't an emergency. I called that number and then went to one of the local bars. I was very shaken and people noticed how pale I'd turned.
When I told people what I'd seen, they asked me if I'd accidentally gone onto so-and-so's land. Apparently, I'd had a lucky escape. If hadn't seen the mutilated animal and had continued on my exploration, I'd have climbed over the gate into the next field and maybe over another gate and into another field, and stumbled upon a farmhouse at the end of a lane leading to the main road, which obviously I would've attempted to have taken to get back to the village. But I'd probably have been shot by the farmer in the process. Whenever the water board went to read his meter, they had to be accompanied by a police escort. The farmer HATED people trespassing on his land.
Everyone said I must've seen a cow that had been mutilated by a dog, but that wasn't what I saw. It shook me up for weeks.
Now, by chance, I'm really into aliens and in 2007 stumbled upon information on a local website about animal mutilations in the area and their connection to UFO sightings. Today, the website has changed and there's a link to a book about it instead https://www.cornwall-ufo.co.uk/killers-on-the-moor.html)
I did my own research into animal mutilations and the UFO connection. There's quite a lot of information about it happening in the US. This is a link to (as far as I know) the only human victim of such mutilation: http://www.newsnfo.co.uk/pages/Informant%20News%20-%20Content.htm

2021.10.20 10:27 yourgirl696969 How long until you expect a junior dev to contribute?
I've been at my current job for a little over a month now. First 2 weeks was just learning Angular (I had done some big fullstack projects on React prior to my first job). Then I got familiar with out massive code base and our processes. Last week I did some bugs. First few were easy. One took me a while day cause it was so nested and small. The rest were easy as well.
Yesterday I got handed my first dev task and it was a custom reusable validator (took in 6 arguments). It took me all of yesterday and all of today to finish. My colleagues are very nice and helpful but I'm worried I'm not catching up fast enough. It took me a while day to refactor 1 component and they did 3.
So my question is: how long do companies/managers/seniors expect a junior to still be in training? Am I expecting too much of myself or am I not learning quick enough?
Also im self-taught and an expat working for the biggest tech company in Vietnam. They knew I had no experience coming in.
